Engineering, Planning and Architectural Firm Expands to Austin Area

(AUSTIN, TX) – Relocating from Salina, Kansas, to Austin, Texas, was an easy decision for Scott Wetzel, an engineer with BWR. Along with several other BWR professionals, Wetzel recently opened the firm’s new office in Round Rock.

The engineering, planning and architectural firm opened their office in The Summit at La Frontera office campus. Focusing on municipal and transportation engineering, BWR (who recently shortened its name from Bucher, Willis & Ratliff Corporation) plans to grow their municipal, county and Department of Transportation (DOT) client base, ultimately providing full BWR services. Wetzel, a BWR principal will serve as the BWR Austin office manager with responsibility for overall operations, business development and client relations.

“This expansion creates an exciting opportunity for our clients and our staff in the growing Austin market. This office has unlimited potential and we are excited to put key leadership and staff in place to grow our presence in the Austin-area municipal services market.  We feel privileged to be part of such a wonderful community,” said Wetzel.

This month marks BWR’s 50th anniversary. Headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., the firm has a strong presence in Texas including three offices in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex and an office in Tyler. BWR first opened their doors in Kansas City in 1957.  Wetzel joined the firm in 1995 in the Salina office.

BWR Chief Operating Officer Kevin Newman said, “This is an excellent new location for the firm in our strongest growth market. The BWR expertise that is located in Austin is outstanding and can greatly benefit our local clients.”

BWR prepared engineering design, bidding and construction administration for the reconstruction and widening of half-mile of Bagdad Road in the City of Leander. Phase-I improvements included expanding the street to five lanes, as well as designing signalization and improvements to the intersection with FM 2243. In addition, BWR is currently designing Phase-II improvements to Bagdad Road.
